4 For Future: Invicta FC 10’s Prospect Watch

Invicta FC 10 comes to the Arena Theater in Houston, Texas headlined by the Women’s Atomweight Champion, Michelle Waterson. She’s not the only attraction as fans should pay close attention to a few noteworthy prospects with the possible birth of the promotion’s next big superstar.

Alexa Grasso (5-0)

Strawweight Height: 5’5” ● Age: 21 ● Lobo Gym

Potentially the next big star of Invicta and women’s MMA provided she can overcome a dangerous test in Alida Gray. Alexa Grasso poses beauty in both her physique and performances. The Mexican standout combines nifty striking and BJJ. Grasso is technical in her strikes but also has knockout power while she attacks aggressively from her back looking for a finish if she has one. Her takedown defense is also pretty solid and her movement is developing. Gray knocks girls out violently so if Grasso keeps her chins and finds a way to win this fight, she’ll be on the bullet train to stardom.

Herica Tiburcio (8-2)

Atomweight Height: 4’11” Age: 22 Gato Team/B9 Team/Inside

Hard to call a fighter with ten professional fights a “prospect”… unless you’re just a year above the American legal drinking age. The diminutive Brazilian is the youngest fighter on the card yet is one of the most experienced. One of her two losses came against strawweight lynchpin, Claudia Gadelha and six of her eight wins have come via finish. Tiburcio’s stocky but solid frame packs power as she’s outwrestled bigger opponents even at strawweight. Tiburcio has a vicious thai clinch particularly her knee strikes, killer ground and pound and is very comfortable in the cage. She’ll be giving the champ, Michelle Waterson all she can handle on Friday.

DeAnna Bennett (5-0)

Flyweight Height: 5’4” ● Age: 30 ● The Pit Elevated Fight Team

The unbeaten “Argentine Assassin” crashed the Invicta scene with a brutal finish of veteran Michelle Ould. Bennett likes to come forward and apply pressure on her opponents. She is dangerous in the clinch with some vicious knees and her leg kicks are potential fight-enders as Ould learned. Against Jennifer Maia—from the fabled Chute Boxe—she may find herself in firefight where she could make a big statement by beating the established veteran.

Jinh Yu Frey (2-1)

AtomweightHeight: 5’2” ● Age: 29 ● Mohler MMA

Jinh Yu Frey was coming off a highlight reel KO when she debuted for Invicta FC two months ago. A hard-fought split decision loss to Jodie Esquibel followed. Frey has fighting spirit and knockout power and the loss should only sharpen her. Against fellow prospect Cassie Robb, Frey should get a good shot to collect another win and maybe even a spectacular finish.
