Anthony Pettis Gets His Mother a Car and House For Christmas
Anthony Pettis was in the giving mood this Christmas holiday. The UFC lightweight champion bought his mother a car and house for Christmas, and posted short video clips of her reaction on Instagram.
The admirable gesture is something most of us wish we could do for our parents and loved ones. Although he’s only fought once in the past 16-months, he did take home $220,000 in reported salary, along with a $50,000 ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus from his victory over Gilbert Melendez at UFC 181.
But Pettis has had some success outside of the Octagon during his lengthy layoff, as he became the face of Monster Headphones. He also made history by becoming the first MMA fighter to grace the cover of a Wheaties box, a very popular cereal in North America.
Pettis also spent some time doing broadcasting work for FOX on pre and post-fight shows during live events this past year. He’s also the co-owner of Showtime Sports Bar in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Anthony Pettis tragically lost his father back in 2003. His mother raised him and his brothers Ray and Sergio on her own since then, which makes seeing her receive these gifts all the more heartwarming.
As for what’s next for Anthony Pettis in the Octagon? With #1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov being sidelined due to injury, it appears that Pettis could defend his title against Rafael dos Anjos next.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission issued Pettis a potential six month medical suspension from his last fight, due to an injured hand which they felt could have been broken. But Pettis has since revealed that his hand is in fact not broken and he won’t be missing any more time out of the Octagon.
