Cat Zingano Officially Becomes Next Title Challenger For UFC’s Ronda Rousey
After dismantling Miesha Tate at the TUF 17 finale, Cat Zingano was named the opposing coach of UFC bantamweight women’s champion Ronda Rousey, for the following season of the reality show. Unfortunately, Cat had to pull out of the coaching role, due to a severe knee injury, which required surgery.
At UFC 178, Zingano made her return to the UFC’s Octagon in a fight with Amanda Nunes, with title implications, should Cat be victorious. After a thrilling third round TKO stoppage, Zingano had her hand raise in victory, solidifying herself as the next woman to face arguably the best fighter in women’s MMA history; Ronda Rousey.
UFC President Dana White confirmed the news at the events post-fight press conference. The win over Nunes brings Zingano’s pro MMA record to 9-0. Champion Ronda Rousey herself also has an undefeated record of 10-0.
Ronda Rousey has recently revealed that she’d like to return to the Octagon at UFC 182, an event headlined by the light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier. UFC 182 takes place on January 3rd, 2015, at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dana White confirmed with Ariel Helwani in a post-fight interview that the UFC 182 event could makes sense for the Rousey vs Zingano fight.
