Chael Sonnen Claims WWE Offered Him $5 Million To Leave UFC and Join Them
Former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight contender Chael Sonnen recently revealed on his Podcast show that WWE majority owner, Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon had offered him $5,000,000 to join the World Wrestling Entertainment company. However, Sonnen was under contract with the UFC at the time and decided to stay loyal to the UFC and reject the offer.
Here are the details that Sonnen revealed on ‘You’re Welcome! with Chael Sonnen’:
“I was offered $5 million by Vince McMahon. Now, I was still under contract with the UFC and I never took this to Dana. I handled it on my own. I told him, ‘No’ and that was the end of that. I never told Dana White this story, but here’s why I didn’t tell him. I knew if I called Dana and said, ‘I’ve got a $5 million offer from Vince McMahon,’ Dana would have matched it.
Dana would have come close and now all of a sudden I’m not a loyal employee. I’m not loyal to the UFC. I’m shopping them and I’m being loyal to myself. That’s business. That’s how that works and I don’t think anyone would have had hard feelings but I didn’t see myself that way.”
Sonnen also hinted that the contract offer from the WWE had some stipulations, something he mentions he will get into in his next Podcast.
Chael Sonnen could potentially be a big star in the Pro Wrestling world, with his Wrestling background and ability to promote a fight with his cleaver trash-talking.
At 37-years-old, Sonnen could still be an asset to the WWE, especially since he would be able to get his therapeutic use exemptions for Testosterone.
Hopefully we’ll hear more about the WWE offer on his next Podcast, which should be out this Wednesday.
