Clay Guida vs Brian Ortega Set For UFC 199
A featherweight clash between fan favorite Clay Guida and undefeated surging prospect Brian Ortega has been officially added to June’s UFC 199 card.
The bout was announced on last night’s edition of UFC Tonight.
Guida has struggled to put together a winning streak as of late, going 3-3 in his last 6 fights, most recently he suffered a first round submission loss to Thiago Tavares at November’s UFC Fight Night 77 event.
“The Carpenter” is a long tenured UFC vet, having fought in the promotion since 2006, picking up big wins along the way over notables like Takanori Gomi, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Anthony Pettis, Nate Diaz and Rafael dos Anjos.
Ortega has impressed many during his young career, putting together a stellar 10-0-1 unbeaten record and his talent has been displayed to the masses now that he’s with the UFC.
During his time in the UFC, Ortega has defeated Thiago Tavares and Diego Brandao in his last fight at UFC 195 in January. The wins improved him to 2-0-1 thus in the UFC and he would have been 3-0 however his win in his UFC debut over Mike De La Torre was overturned because he failed a post fight drug test.
UFC 199 takes place on June 4th at The Forum in Los Angeles, California and it will be headlined by a middleweight title rematch between champ Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman.
