Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz Official For UFC 196

MMA fans this morning were saddened by the news that UFC lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos, had suffered a foot injury, and was out of his UFC 196 title fight vs Conor McGregor. But have no fear, UFC fans. UFC president Dana White just announced on Sports Center, that Nate Diaz will step in as a replacement to take on McGregor in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will be a welterweight bout.

Nate Diaz is coming off an impressive unanimous decision win over Michael Johnson, at UFC on FOX 17. Diaz is 13-8 in the UFC and 18-10 overall. The pre-fight promotion and the fight itself should be amazing. Both fighters love to freely speak their minds, and always go for the kill when they’re competing in the Octagon.

Conor McGregor is the UFC featherweight champion. He was looking to add a second UFC title to his resume, if he fought and beat Dos Anjos.

If McGregor defeats Diaz, there’s a good chance the fight for the lightweight title against Rafael dos Anjos, could get booked again, likely for UFC 200. Or, McGregor could face current UFC welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler.

UFC 196 takes place on Saturday, March 5th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
