Cris Cyborg To Make UFC Debut Against Leslie Smith At UFC 198
One of the best female fighters in the world, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino, will finally be stepping foot in the UFC’s Octagon. The UFC officially announced today that Cyborg will be making her debut against Leslie Smith at UFC 198. The fight against Smith will take place at a catchweight of 140lbs.
Justino has an MMA record of 15-1-1. He sole loss was her first pro MMA fight, back in 2005. Back in 2011, she had her victory over Hiroko Yamanaka at Strikeforce: Melendez vs Masvidal, overturned due to failing a post-fight drug test for steroids. The failed drug test hurt the popularity of female MMA fighting for a while, since she was considered the #1 female fighter in the world at the time.
Leslie Smith is 2-2 in the UFC and 8-6-1 overall. Smith recently fought at UFC Fight Night 85 and beat Rin Nakai via unanimous decision.
UFC 198 takes place on May 14th, 2016 at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil. The main event will see Fabricio Werdum attempt to defend his heavyweight title for the first time, as he’s set to face Stipe Miocic.
In the co-main event, fellow Brazilians, Vitor Belfort and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, will fight each other with possible middleweight title shot on the line.
The venue UFC 198 will be held in has a capacity of over 42,000. It’s very likely the event will sell out, with such a stacked card full of Brazilian talent.
