UFC on FOX 13: Dana White Comments on Claudia Gadelha Punch After The Bell

UFC on FOX 13 took place at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, on December 13th, 2014. A women’s strawweight bout with title implications headlined the prelims, as Claudia Gadelha battled Joanna Jędrzejczyk.

The bout ended up going the distance with Jędrzejczyk’s hand being raised in a controversial split-decision. But that wasn’t the only controversy from that fight.

At the end of the fight, the two women were exchanging strikes, and a couple seconds after the bell went signaling the end of the round, Claudia Gadelha threw a right hook that clipped Jędrzejczyk.

Many fans and media reacted differently to the incident, with many bringing up the UFC 113 incident where Paul Daley sucker punched Josh Koscheck at the end of their fight.

But UFC president Dana White doesn’t feel that it was a big issue at all, as he explained during the UFC on FOX 13 post-fight press conference:

“Yeah, so let me tell you about that. People were going crazy on me about that one. You know ‘She hit her after the bell, she did this, she did that’. And then of course, everybody goes back to Daley.

The difference is this; When Daley did it to Koscheck, I was in there. I went up to Daley… He didn’t care. He didn’t give a sh-t. He looked right at me and said he didn’t care. As soon as she did it to her, she reached her hand out and she apologized to her.

She said ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry’. Those two had a war; they’re in the heat of the battle. She (Jedrzejczyk) landed a kick, the bell rang and then she (Gadelha) hit her with a punch. And then the she completely apologized for doing it. Totally different senario.”
