Dana White Interested In Nate Diaz vs Robbie Lawler Fight
Nate Diaz won the biggest fight of his MMA career last night, when he submitted UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, at UFC 196 in a welterweight bout. The win gives Diaz multiple options at either the lightweight division or the welterweight division, should he decide to stay there.
One option that UFC president Dana White surprisingly made, was a title fight against welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler, at UFC 200 on July 9th, 2016. What makes the possible fight more intriguing, is that Nate Diaz’s older brother, Nick Diaz, fought and defeated Robbie Lawler as a massive underdog, way back at UFC 47.
Here’s what Dana White had to say about it:
“You know what would make a lot of sense? This isn’t the fight I’m making (now), I’m just saying, him and Robbie Lawler make a lot of sense.
His brother beat Robbie, who is now the world champion, and Nate became very very popular tonight. We’ll see what happens, but for me to predict what one of the Diaz brothers are going to do, who knows?”
Robbie Lawler became the UFC welterweight champion when he defeated Johny Hendricks at UFC 181. He’s since defended the title twice, once in a ‘Fight of the Night and ‘Fight of the Year’ performance against Rory MacDonald at UFC 189, as well as another ‘Fight of the Night’ performance against Carlos Condit at UFC 195.
Dana White makes the suggestion at the 6:34 mark of this post-fight interview with FOX Sports.
