Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida. Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier. Urijah Faber and T.J. Dillashaw. These are the names of pairs of Hall of Fame caliber fighters who make for exciting match-ups with the taboo of being of training partners and close friends making it unlikely to happen. But never say never. Urijah Faber and T.J. Dillashaw are apparently willing to fight each other according to UFC President Dana White.
“Those guys have made it clear that they will fight each other,” Dana White confirmed as reported by by Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting. “It’s possible. We’ll see what happens.”
Urijah Faber recently revealed in an interview with Ariel Helwani that he does not want to fight T.J. Dillashaw but left room for a slight possibility of it happening.
T.J. Dillashaw was originally slated to defend his UFC Bantamweight Championship against former champion, Dominick Cruz until he injured his knee. Raphael Assuncao, who was likely next in line was also sidelined with an injury. This leaves only Renan Barao and Urijah Faber as the next viable challengers to Dillashaw’s belt.
Urijah Faber is coming off a controversial win over Francisco Rivera where his inadvertent eye poke led to a submission victory. Rivera is appealing the decision to the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) and a rematch could be in the works.
During last nights ‘UFC Tonight’ episode, UFC president Dana White claimed that Dillashaw and Faber have made it clear to him that they would fight each other.
Dana White makes the comments at the 2:30 mark of the video.
