Junior Dos Santos And Stipe Miocic Headline First UFC Event in Phoenix
The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced its first live event in Phoenix, Arizona. Saturday, Dec. 13. The event will be help at US Airways Center, and headlining is a monster heavyweight clash between former UFC heavyweight champ Junior Dos Santos and #4 Stipe Miocic. The event also features at least five competitors with Arizona ties.
One of the best heavyweights in UFC history, current #2 ranked contender Dos Santos returns to the UFC Octagon for the first time since his trilogy of bouts with current champ Cain Velasquez. Stipe Miocic, with wins over top contenders Roy Nelson, Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabio Maldonado, is one of the hottest names in the division. he hopes to keep the momentum going by taking the next step toward a shot at the title.
As co-main event, explosive lightweight Nate Diaz makes his anticipated return against #3 ranked Rafael Dos Anjos. After over 12 months off, Diaz looks to re-establish himself as a top contender in the lightweight division. Beating Dos Anjos will be no easy task, as the Brazilian warrior boasts a two-fight win streak including a stunning first-round knockout of former lightweight champ Benson Henderson.
Plus, former STRIKEFORCE heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem faces 6’11”contender Stefan Struve in a massive heavyweight bout. Struve has won four of his last five fights, including victories over Miocic, Lavar Johnson, Dave Herman & Pat Barry.
The Phoenix card will also feature former title challenger and longtime UFC veteran (No. 12) Gabriel Gonzaga taking on surging former NFL player Matt Mitrione. Additionally, former Arizona State University NCAA Division I wrestler John Moraga meets fourth-ranked contender Jussier Formiga in the flyweight div.

- Phoenix native Joe Riggs returns to the UFC Octagon after eight years against veteran Ben Saunders in a welterweight bout.
- Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner meets The Ultimate Fighter season 15 contestant Drew Dober.
- The Ultimate Fighter season 3 finalist Ed Herman faces rising middleweight star Derek Brunson.
- In the lightweight division, Joe Ellenberger takes on UFC newcomer Bryan Barberena.
- Plus, Anthony Birchak and Ian Entwistle will square off in a bantamweight bout.
Tickets for UFC FIGHT NIGHT: DOS SANTOS vs. MIOCIC go on sale Friday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. PT and are priced at $200, $150, $100, $75, $50 and $40.
