Francisco Rivera to Appeal UFC 181 Loss to Urijah Faber
UFC bantamweight Francisco Rivera is not happy how his UFC 181 fight with Urijah Faber ended. The two men fought on the FOX Sports 1 prelims which saw Faber get the second-round submission victory. But an accidental eye-poke is what Rivera feels led to the finish.
And according to Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting, Rivera will be filing an appeal with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Not only will Francisco Rivera appeal the loss, but he stated on Twitter that he also wants a rematch with the former WEC champion.
It’s unlikely the Nevada State Athletic Commission will overturn the decision from the fight. The only time the NSAC seems to overturn decisions is if a fighter fails their post-fight drug test.
Francisco Rivera was looking good in the fight and very likely won the first-round on the judges scorecards. Will that lead to the UFC to making the rematch? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Urijah Faber admits he feels bad about the accidental eye-poke, and that he didn’t realize he had done it until he saw the slow motion replays after the fight.
Faber posted a video in the incident, along with a statement on his Instagram.
1st time watchn my fight, had only seen super slow mo version. Crazy how people saw intentional foul play in a 6 sec combo. Props 2 @ciscoriveraufc 4 being a class act! Got a little emotional talking about a warrior-Don Rowan fighting cancer! The real battle out there. Thnks 2 all my fans, always feeling the love! @teamalphamalemma @kennyflorian @joeroganexperience
