In fact, TEN of Duffy’s twelve wins have come in the first round.
Financial details of the deal haven’t been disclosed, but as we’d guess, the contract is whispered to be extremely lucrative – much more so than any current standard entry-level UFC contracts.
This move comes as no surprise to UFC & MMA Fans alike. We could not have guessed, however, how soon, due to Duffy’s contractual obligations – a move this soon cold not have been predicted.
With a record of 12-1, the 26-year-old is one of the sport’s most talked-about prospects.
Add to the mix his defeat of McGregor, there’ll be plenty of conversations and anticipation of an eventual, and unavoidable re-match.
Having recently returned to MMA after an undefeated seven-fight stint as a professional boxer, Duffy has shown that he’s still getting better and has the potential to be a considerable threat in the UFC’s 155lbs division. He submitted challenger Damien Lapilus last August during Cage Warriors 70 in Dublin, before a spectacular KO finish of Julien Boussuge during Cage Warriors 74 in London in November.
Originally from the coastal Donegal village of Burtonport, Duffy is now based in London where he fights out of the MMA Clinic and Team Titan.
The UFC hopes to offer Duffy his Octagon debut in March or April of 2015. While no details are available just yet, we all know his first matchup won’t come soon enough.
