Kimbo Slice Training For MMA Comeback?

Kimbo Slice hasn’t competed in an MMA fight since he lost to Matt Mitrione at UFC 113 on May 8th, 2010 in Montreal, Canada. He was released by the UFC after that loss, and UFC president Dana White commended him for taking on the challenge of competing on TUF 10 and in the UFC. But White felt Kimbo didn’t have what it took to compete in the premier mixed martial arts organization.

After his departure from MMA, Kimbo Slice would go on to compete in professional Boxing and compile a record of 7-0. But Slice has not stepped foot in a Boxing ring for nearly a year.

So, what has the former street fighting Youtube sensation been up to all this time? Well, according to an Instagram post by former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown, Kimbo Slice was training at American Top Team on December 24th, 2014.

Maybe Kimbo Slice was just getting a workout in to burn off some calories before his Christmas dinner. After all, he does reside in Miami, Florida – where American Top Team is located. Or perhaps the rumors that Bellator MMA is aggressively pursuing him to return to MMA, in their organization is a factor.

In an interview with MMA Fighting this past August, Bellator MMA president Scott Coker revealed that one of his matchmakers did reach out to Kimbo Slice’s management team about a possible return, but felt Kimbo might be done from fighting.

Here’s what Scott Coker said:

“Am I interested in Kimbo Slice, you know what, there was a conversation that one of our matchmakers had with him, but I think he’s pretty much done. I think he’s retired. I’m not sure what his position is, but I don’t think there was any interest.”

But with Viacom (owners of Bellator MMA) wanting to be aggressive with signing fighters with recognizable names that will help expand their viewership, could they have made another attempt at luring Kimbo out of retirement, with an offer he couldn’t refuse? After all, Viacom knows that Kimbo Slice draws huge ratings, since they own SPIKE TV, the channel that aired TUF 10.

If Kimbo Slice is in fact returning to MMA, and in Bellator, expect that news to come out within the next month or so.

Morning training today with one of my favorites. . @kimboslice
