John Lineker vs. Robert Font Added To Stacked UFC 198
With each day that passes UFC 198 continues to get more and more stacked with the most recent addition being a bantamweight bout between the always exciting John Lineker and winner of 11 straight Rob Font.
The bout was made official earlier today by the UFC.
This will be Lineker’s first fight since last September where he picked up his 3rd straight win over Francisco Rivera at UFC 191 in a exciting fight that took home “Fight of the night” honors.
The Brazilian was originally supposed to return in February at UFC Fight Night 83 against Cody Garbrandt but he was forced to withdraw due to an illness.
Even after Lineker’s withdrawal but he and Garbrandt still openly campaigned to fight each other on social media so its a bit of a surprise they didn’t try making that fight again. However, UFC opted to give Garbrandt a more high profile fight against Thomas Almeida.
Font brings in an almost perfect 12-1 MMA record into the fight, winning 11 straight fights since his only career loss. Most recently he defeated Joey Gomez at UFC Fight Night 81 in January.
If Font continues his winning ways he will keep his name in the conversation with the likes of other surging contenders in the stacked bantamweight division like Bryan Caraway, Aljamain Sterling, TJ Dillashaw, Raphael Assuncao, among others.
UFC 198 takes place on May 14, 2016 at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil and its headlined by a heavyweight title bout between champ Fabricio Werdum and challenger Stipe Miocic.
Arena da Baixada is a soccer stadium that holds over 40,000 people so its not a surprise that the UFC is stacking Brazilian legends like Vitor Belfort, Jacare Souza, Anderson Silva, Shogun Rua, Demian Maia, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to help sellout the event.
