Mark Hunt vs Frank Mir Betting Preview

The UFC makes its return to the land down under this Saturday in Brisbane, Australian as fan-favorite Mark Hunt meets UFC vet Frank Mir in a potential (not very likely) five round war.

Mark Hunt enters this fight 1-2 in his last three, with his most recent fight coming by way of first round knockout over Antonio Silva at UFC 193 which also took place in Australia. As for Frank Mir, he comes into this fight 2-1 in his last three. You could almost say he’s had a bit of a ’career resurgence’, with two first-round finishes over Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee. While only dropping a lackluster decision to Andrei Arlovski last September.

As for the matchup, you have Hunt who is the favorite currently at (-155) while you have Mir who is the slight dog at (+135). These lines come from 5dimes and it is the only betting website I use as of right now. I actually really like Mir in this fight. You’re probably thinking, “Wow, are you serious? He’s going to get slept in the first round.” While that is very likely, you have to consider Hunt is 41 right now and will be 42 next week. He has absorbed a lot of damage against Miocic last year and ate a powerful flying knee from Werdum. Both of those ended up in a TKO loss for him. Yes, Hunt does have a significant advantage in the striking department, but he’s also at a height and reach disadvantage (Reach: Hunt 74”, Mir 79”).

I’m also not ruling out the fact that Mir could be finished early in the first couple of rounds, but what if he survives and fights smart? Hunt will tire out the longer the fight goes and if Mir fights smart, he will push Hunt up against the cage, use some dirty boxing and take Hunt to the ground. If that happens then I have huge confidence in Mir submitting Hunt. Who knows also, maybe Mir catches Hunt and drops him. Mir does have power behind his punches and coupled with his reach advantage could serve him well.

My bet: Take a 1u bet on Mir at (+135) and if you really like the odds, throw .5u or 1u on Mir wins inside the distance (+168).
