After a cloudy year in Bellator’s heavyweight division, if has just become more confusing after a startling announcement from the champion today.
Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad is retiring from the sport of mixed martial arts. He has taken a job with North Central Trading as a financial trader specializing in milk products.
Twincities.com was the first to report this shocking news. Konrad is undefeated at 9-0 & earned his shot at the Bellator title by making it to the final of the inaugural heavyweight tournament in October 2010. He defeated Neil Grove to win the belt & then defended it versus Eric Prindle in May.
The status of the championship is unknown at this time. It would appear another tournament will be held to name a new champion but there has been no official world from the promotion yet.
