Chad Mendes Wanted For Questioning In Local Bar Fight

The Hanford Sentinel is reporting that UFC fighter Chad Mendes is wanted by police so they can question him about a bar fight.

A 40-person drunken broke out at the Lacey Inn Bar on Saturday. Mendes has allegedly ‘sucker punched’ a customer in the face and ran out the back door. Police have not been able to locate him.

Police were called to the establishment after 1am. The deputy arrived at the bar to witness two men fighting in the parking lot. As the officer intervened one man turned on him.

More patrons spilled out of the bar causing a 40 person brawl that had to be broken up by the police once back up arrived. Mendes, who was recognized, appeared to be intoxicated and cursed at the officers, authorities said. They then asked him to leave. Instead, he went back inside and struck one man who “never even saw him coming,” Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam said.

Putnam continued.

“The victim felt lucky to walk out with just a contusion after being punched by Mendes. If we don’t speak with him by Monday, then we’ll request that the District Attorney’s Office file charges against him.

With his training as a professional fighter, he could be looking at a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. That’s something the District Attorney’s Office will have to weigh out when they make their filing decision.”
