Fedor Considering Retirement

On June 21, former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko will face Pedro ‘The Rock’ Rizzo at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. Right now, Fedor is unsure of his future after this fight & may call it a career.

The ‘Last Emperor’ spoke with RiaNovosti about his upcoming fight & what he may do next.

“I think it’s time to call it a day. “This fight may be my last one.

I have been learning from Pedro’s fights and have a lot of respect for him. “He is a fighter of a great maturity, beating many of the strongest.”

Fedor has hinted at retirement before so this can not be taken as a certainty. With the hope of him ever fighting for the UFC all but gone there is very little out there in the heavyweight world for Fedor to do. The vast majority of quality heavyweights are under contract to Zuffa.

Perhaps a fight with Josh Barnett in Strikeforce if he is able to win the Grand Prix this weekend may be appealing. With Zuffa now in control of Strikeforce that doesn’t seem to be likely destination.

At this time nothing is official but if the well respected Russian fighter does call it a career then it would close the final chapter on a storied career.
