The manager for Jon Jones, Malki Kawa, told mmafighting.com that his client would not be fighting in Calgary for UFC 149, which has been a hot rumour:
“He will not be fighting in July. It’s just probably a little too soon. There’s been no timetable yet but July probably isn’t going to happen. Jon’s going to take a little time to himself, and then he’ll get back into it.”
The two most logical events for this fight to take place at are:
UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II in Denver, Colorado August 11th 2012. With lightweight title fights not often able to carry a pay-per-view on it’s own, Jones vs. Henderson could really make UFC 150 a good pay-per-view buy.
UFC 152: Toronto, The UFC makes it’s third trip to what has been called “The Mecca” of MMA in the past by the UFC president Dana White. The event takes place on September 22nd and has no event scheduled as of yet.
Last December the UFC scrambled to make a main event for UFC 140, which is likely why the event did not sell out until fight day.
Perhaps naming the main event soon would boost the rate of ticket sales for the event.
