Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans revealed on the UFC on FUEL TV 5 post-fight show that he turned down the opportunity to fight Glover Teixeira on short notice on the UFC 153 card set for October 13th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, explaining there was no way he’d fight such a dangerous opponent on that sort of notice.
“I don’t know. I talked to Dana [White] early this week and we talked about maybe December. But I’m thinking maybe January or February.
I will fight anybody. I want to get a fight at light heavyweight. They offered me a fight, but it was against Glover Teixeira and I only had three weeks to fight and I haven’t been training.
I was like, ‘no way, not with that notice in Brazil.”
Evans hasn’t been in the Octagon since he lost a five-round decision to former friend and training partner, Jon Jones earlier this year.
While 2013 is a real possibility, Dana hinted earlier this week that Evans could return to action as early as the UFC 155 card set for December 29th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
