Roy Nelson Willing To Step In & Fight Daniel Cormier

With Frank Mir dropping out of his fight with Strikeforce Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier, Big Country Roy Nelson appears to be ready to fill the void on the card.

Nelson posted a message on his Facebook page.

Found out FRANK MIR is out. I told the @ufc & @danawhite put me in coach. I know their are few that will step up, but hey sometimes you have to “FIGHT BEFORE BEING FIRED”. Movie quote

Fabricio Werdum had indicated he may be interested in the fight as well. The move to have a UFC fighter compete on a Strikeforce card was unexpected, but welcomed. If a suitable replacement from outside the UFC can not be found, Dana White may have no choice but to have another UFC fighter fill the spot.

The big issue with Nelson taking the spot is that he is scheduled to face Shane Carwin at the conclusion of the current season of The Ultimate Fighter. The UFC does need him to face Cormier, receive an injury & have to make yet another card change.

While it is nice to see fighters step up to fill voids it seems unlikely Nelson’s offer will be taken up by Zuffa.
