Rumor – Anderson Silva To Vacate Middleweight Title And Drop To Welterweight To Fight St-Pierre

There have been rumors running rampant that UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, plans on fighting current welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, should St-Pierre defeat Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in Montreal in November. Well that rumor seems to be more of a reality, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer

According to Meltzer, he has had conversations with ZUFFA employee’s who indicated that Anderson Silva wants the ‘Super Fight’ with St-Pierre badly enough that he will drop to 170lbs, a weight he has not fought at since 2001 for Shooto.

Another interesting thing to consider, that might make this rumor more realistic, is the fact that Silva’s teammate, Lyoto Machida, has said recently that he cold very well move down from light-heavyweight to middleweight.

Machida weighed in for his UFC on FOX 4 fight at 201lbs, which had many asking why he came in so light. But with him securing a title shot against the winner of Jones vs. Henderson which is scheduled for UFC 151, it’s unlikely Machida will pass that shot up.

The past few years, St-Pierre vs. Silva is the ‘Super Fight’ fans have been demanding. But lately the more desirable fight is Silva vs. Jones. Anderson has rejected numours times, the notion of moving up to light-heavyweight to take on Jones.

Dave Meltzer’s rumors have been hit and miss, he’s a legend in the Pro Wrestling world for breaking rumors, but at times is way off when it comes to MMA. But there is a very good chance, this rumor could turn out to be a reality.

We will be watching this rumor closely and will report anything new. MMA fans, keep your fingers crossed.
