Strikeforce Grand Prix Finale: Staff Predictions

#1 – Mike McPhee - @ManCaveMMA

Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier (Barnett via Submission)

Tough fight to call as each fighter possesses great talents. I think Barnett has more tricks in the bag & can get Cormier to the mat at some point.

It will take time to setup properly but if anyone can do it, Barnett can. Once Barnett gets him down & a submission will come soon after.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson (Melendez via TKO)

We would all like to see Gilbert vs. UFC fighters but since we can’t we can enjoy what he does in SF. Thomson & Gilbert have had some great fights before & I see no reason that won’t continue. But Gilbert is better than ever & will catch Josh on the chin dropping him & ending with ground & pound.

Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante vs. Mike Kyle (Cavalcante via TKO)

Another fight on this card that may lead to a nice striking war. Feijao is the better overall fighter & should prove it early in this fight. Kyle has the ability knock people out but Feijao will be hard to hit flush & should counter effectively. Feijao clips his chin & finishes him with a TKO.

Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Chris Spang (Burrell via KO)

Burrell is on a roll with 6 wins in a row. Spang is a good young fighter himself but Burrell is better on is feet. Burrell doesn’t go to decision often & I do not expect this one to go there either. Expect a hard fought battle with some great striking. Burrell will get the better of Spang at some point putting him down.

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg (Cavalcante via Decision)
Guto Inocente vs. Virgil Zwicker (Zwicker via TKO)
Derrick Mehmen vs. Gian Villante (Villante via TKO)
Quinn Mulhern vs. Yuri Villefort (Mulhern via Submission)
Bobby Green vs. James Terry (Green via Decision)

(#2) – Jay Russell - @VENDETTA_MMA

Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier (Cormier via TKO)

I’ve been going back and forth on who to pick in this fight. I think Josh’s experience could play a huge factor, if he can get Daniel on the ground he can win the fight. But I am going to go with the young Lion that some people refer to as the ‘Black Fedor’, Daniel Cormier by TKO. I expect him to catch Barnett with a flurry of punches.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson (Melendez via TKO)

Josh is suffering from a knee injury going into this fight. Gilbert Melendez is really pissed off that he has to face Thomson again. Also Gilbert looked a bit lackluster in his last fight vs. Masvidal, therefore he will come out and wreck Josh within 2 rounds.

Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante vs. Mike Kyle (Cavalcante via TKO)

Mike Kyle is not a bad fighter, but at the same time I don’t think he’s good enough for the aggressive style of Feijao.

Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Chris Spang (Spang via decision)

I won’t lie, I don’t know too much about these guys, so I will pick via who has the cooler name.

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg (Cavalcante via Submission)
Guto Inocente vs. Virgil Zwicker (Inocente via Decision)
Derrick Mehmen vs. Gian Villante (Villante via TKO)
Quinn Mulhern vs. Yuri Villefort (Mulhern via Submission)
Bobby Green vs. James Terry (Terry via Decision)

(#3) – Corey Osborne - @Osborcor1

Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier (Barnett Via Submission)

Barnett was put on the easy side of the bracket for a reason, so that
he could get to the finals. He did exactly what he had to do. Cormier
wasnt even in the tournament until the semi’s. I believe that the
experiance of Barnett will allow him to get Cormier comfortable on the
ground, and submit him before the third round.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson (Melendez Via Decision)

This is all going to be about who has frown more as a fighter in the
last 3 years. If anyone thinks Thomson has grown more then Gil, then I
dont know what you have been watching. I dont see anyone getting
finished, but I see Gil winning fairly easily (As always)

Rafael Cavalcante vs. Mike Kyle (Cavalcante Via Decision)

Remember when Kyle almost knocked out Big Foot? Seriously, look it up
if you havnt seen it. This guy knows how to drop bombs. the first time
these two fought, Kyle came out on top in a big way. There was a lot of
discussion about Cavalcante not being prepared for the fight, and
everything else. I believe he is going to try and make a statement with
this fight, the first time was a fluke

Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Chris Spang (Burrell Via KO)

How come JZ is on the undercard and this fight is on the main card? No
seriously, im going to wait for your answer.

Gesias Cavalcante vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg (Cavalcante Via KO)
Virgil Zwicker vs. Guto Inocente (Zwicker Via KO)
Derrick Mehmen vs. Gian Villante (Villante Via Decision)
Quinn Mulhern vs. Yuri Villefort (Mulhern Via Submission)
James Terry vs. Bobby Green (Green Via KO)

(#4) – Deb Borges - @HammertownMMA

Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier (Barnett via decision)

This was a tough fight to call. Both fighters are so well rounded with great grappling, striking and take down defense. I can see Barnett taking this to the ground and working his ground and pound. If Cormier does not defend see him losing this fight. Giving the slight advantage to Barnett.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson(Melendez via TKO)

I love watching Thomson fight but I think Melendez has the edge. There is a lot of history between these two fighters and I expect they will both come out in the first round with guns blazing. Both are well rounded fighters with a solid stand up and ground game but Thompson also has a history of injury and I think this will play a factor for sure.

Rafael Cavalcante vs. Mike Kyle(Cavalcante via TKO)

Both of these guys have the ability to finish this fight. Cavalcante has wild knees and a vicious ground game. He should try and take Kyle to the ground and keep him there. Kyle has some power in his punches and will try to keep this fight standing. Kyle has suffered a lot of injuries and this is why I do not see him finishing this fight.

Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Chris Spang (Burrell via decision)

Another exciting fight to watch for sure. Spang has powerful striking and wants to avoid being taken down. Burrell may not be as technical as Spang but just as powerful and has great wrestling.

Gesias Cavalcante vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg (Cavalcane via decision)
Virgil Zwicker vs. Guto Inocente(Zwicker via decision)
Derrick Mehmen vs. Gian Villante(Villante via TKO)
Quinn Mulhern vs. Yuri Villefort(Mulhern via submission)
Bobby Green vs. James Terry (Terry via decision)
