The winner of the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix will not be done with the promotion just yet. The promotion plans one final bout for that winner before the division closes.
On May 19th Josh Barnett & Daniel Cormier will battle to finally name the Grand Prix champion. Whoever that turns out to be there will be one final fight for them booked later in the year. Who that opponent will be is yet to be known at this time.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker spoke about the situation.
“Just some preliminary conversations, but as you can imagine it just depends on who wins and if there’s any injuries, things like that. Then any injuries to any other fighters that we might be looking to come fight the winner.
That’s something we can probably have a better picture of once this fight is over, see the outcome, and see if there’s any injuries.”
