Nick Diaz Hires Law Firm To Fight UFC 183 Drug Test Result
Nick Diaz has hired the law firm of Seham, Seham, Meltz & Petersen LLP to investigate any possible irregularities in his UFC 183 post-fight drug test that was found to have Marijuana metabolites.
Ariel Helwani revealed the news on tonight’s episode of ‘UFC Tonight’. Lloyd Pierson, Nick Diaz’s manager, says that Diaz believes there were “irregularities” in the drug test results.
This is the third time in his MMA career that he’s failed a drug test for the same banned substance. Although many people can debate if Marijuana should even be on the banned substance list, it is, and when Diaz was granted his fight license to take on Silva in the state of Nevada, he agreed to follow their rules.
Diaz’s newly hired law firm is based in New York and will be representing Diaz at his next NSAC hearing, which is expected to take place next month, but the commission hasn’t set an official date as of yet.
Diaz was handed a twelve month suspension when he last failed a post-fight drug test for Marijuana metabolites after his decision loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 143.
There’s a good chance he’ll receive the same suspension term, along with a hefty fine, should he not be able to win this case before the NSAC.
But perhaps the NSAC will be lenient on Diaz, since they allowed Anderson Silva — who failed a pre-fight test for steroids — to step in the Octagon with him in the first place.
