UFC 178: Dominick Cruz Earns Next Title Shot Against TJ Dillashaw

Dominick-Cruz-2Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz had a dominant performance over Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178, and it has earned him the next shot at the UFC bantamweight title.

It had been nearly three years since Cruz last fought in the UFC’s Octagon, after sustaining multiple knee injuries. But the former champ showed no signs of ‘ring rust’, as he made quick work of Takeya Mizugaki, finishing him at the 1:01 mark of the very first round.

Dana White: “Nobody does that to Mizugaki”

At the UFC 178 post-event press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Cruz will be the next man to face current UFC bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw.

TJ Dillahaw captured the UFC bantamweight title with a very impressive domination of Renan Barao, at UFC 173, back in May, 2014.

Conor McGregor – the Road to a World Championship

The Notorious One is headed for Greatness!

McGregor2With his decisive win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 178, Conor McGregor appears to be well on his way to a World Title. I don’t see how the executives at Zuffa deny him the shot.

The win wasn’t only a win for the Irish native but a full on statement! However brief, this seemed to be a bit of a showcase to the UFC Brass, the fans, just what a dynamic and unconventional fighter Connor McGregor is.

While the win took a little over three minutes, Conor appeared very relaxed during the fight, was taunting his opponent all the while throwing a series of roundhouse kicks and spinning body shots.

There will be trash talk about the finish with Dustin, who after the fight seemed to be complaining about blows to the back of the head, but Herb Dean – one of MMA’s best – was in the ring and he was quoted as saying, “Justified stoppage, all blows were legal.”

Herb Dean: “Justified stoppage, all blows were legal.”

Coach John Kavanagh was recently quoted, “I do think that he will definitely be a two-weight world champion, that’s a given, and I think with a certain set of circumstances he will be the first and only three-weight division UFC champion. That would be at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight.”

McGregor to Joe Rogan, “What the other featherweights don’t understand, is that it’s a whole other game when they get hit by me.”

Winning in different weight classes is nothing new, just ask Dan Henderson, BJ Penn and Randy Couture, they’ve all won world titles at two different weight classes.

I know one fighter who’s watching with a keen interest .. long time Featherweight Champ Jose Aldo.

Can McGregor become the first MMA fighter to win three titles? Watching McGregor tonight leads me to think “Hmm…”

“Love him or hate him, Conor McGregor is good for the sport of MMA. The hype is fun, he’s charismatic, and he backs everything up with action. This is a humble yet very confident man who is earning our respect the old-fashioned way, through hard work.”

Conor McGregor Unplugged (bonus video)

Watch this video! .. for all you Conor Haters Out There, or if you just don’t know the man take a few minutes as Ariel Helwani spends a little time with the up & coming Champ in his native hometown of Dublin, Ireland.

DC Comics’ Ace Porter Teams Up for UFC 181

Perhaps a long time coming, the UFC is finally taking a step away from the traditional style of event Poster.

I’m guessing there’s new young blood in in the Marketing Dept at Zuffa .. after a 20 year run, it’s nice to see some fresh ideas come out of the Vegas based company.

The UFC and DC Entertainment companies collaborated to create unique, Special Edition UFC 181 poster. The UFC and DC Comics, the leaders in their respective fields, teamed up, producing art which captures the double main event of the December 6 Pay-Per-View event.

Inspired by DC Comics, this collaboration between DC’s pencil artist Howard Porter, colorist Alex Sinclair and the UFC creative team, the UFC 181 artwork depicts double main event stars Johny Hendricks. Robbie Lawler, Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez, in truly iconic, one-of-a-kind artwork. The artwork will be used in all key creative elements surrounding the UFC 181 event, including the official event poster, program and other promotional materials.

Dana White; “This is a really cool collaboration between two awesome companies. We worked with some of the top guys over there at DC Entertainment and I want to thank them for doing an awesome job.”

We the fans would like to thank you too!
