Rashad Evans vs Glover Teixeira Reportedly Headlines UFC Fight Night 61
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans is set to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon, when he faces Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 61.
Brazilian website Combate has reported that Evans and Teixeira will headline the UFC Fight Night 61 card, which takes place on February 22nd and is expected to take place in Brazil.
The UFC themselves have yet to make the official announcement, it’s believed that verbal agreements are in place and the contracts will be signed soon.
Rashad Evans last fought at UFC 167 when he decimated Chael Sonnen in the first-round. Evans has an MMA record of 19–3–1 and has won fourteen of his eighteen fights in the UFC’s Octagon.
Glover Teixeira will be looking to but a halt to his two-fight losing skid. The last time Teixeira had his hand raised in victory was against Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28.
Teixeira is 22–4 in MMA. He’s won five of his seven fights inside the UFC’s Octagon.
Rashad Evans was supposed to face Daniel Cormier at UFC 170. However, a leg injury forced him out of the fight just 10 days before the event. During that time off Evans hinted at a possible move down to the middleweight division, a move that’s clearly not happening with this fight being booked, at least for now.
Glover Teixeira likely needs to win to stay in the top 10 of the official light heavyweight rankings as he’s currently ranked at #6.
