Renan Barao Overhauls His Diet and Nutrition Plan
Former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao was set to face TJ Dillashaw, the man who dethroned him of the title, at UFC 177 in attempt to re-capture the belt. However, on the day of the weigh-ins for the event, Barao was sent to the hospital as a result of his failed attempt to cut weight, and was pulled from the fight by the UFC.
The Brazilian was slammed by UFC president Dana White, fans and media for not doing part of his job by making the weight, something Barao was extremely ashamed of.
Renan Barao has recently revealed that due to that incident, he has completely changed his diet and is working with a nutritionist to ensure it never happens again. Here’s what he told agfight.com.br:
“After this defeat, I improved my diet and I saw that I have to train more. I stopped eating crap, now I’m only eating athlete food. I ate a lot of pizza, pasta, now took a while, I am more regimented, with a nutritionist.
It’s never easy to make weight, but I’m very well thank God, with a much more balanced meals well before the fight. Everything will be fine, it will be much easier.”
Prior to the loss to Dillashaw, Barao was on an impressive 22-fight win streak, with seven of those victories taking place in the UFC’s Octagon.
After the UFC 177 event, UFC president Dana White revealed that because Barao had to be pulled for the title fight, that he would not be granted the privilege to fight for the title in his next fight.
Renan Barao is now set to face Mitch Gagnon at UFC Fight Night 58, which takes place in Barueri, Brazil on December 20th, 2014.
