Rory MacDonald vs Hector Lombard In The Works For UFC 186

Verbal agreements are in place that will see Rory MacDonald take on Hector Lombard at UFC 186 in Montreal, Canada. A source close to the situation revealed the news to Vendetta Fighter this evening. It’s unknown at this time if the fight will serve as the main or co-main event — that will depend on if the UFC can add a title fight to the card or not.

There is a chance that the trilogy fight between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lalwer could headline the card, but that’s just speculation.

Rory MacDonald was promised the next welterweight title shot by UFC president Dana White back in October. He was also expected to get the shot in his home country of Canada.

Unfortunately for Rory, the rematch between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lalwer ended in a close decision that saw Lalwer capture the welterweight title.

Two weeks later, Rory MacDonald was informed that he was no longer getting the next title shot. Which made it clear the UFC was set on making the third fight between Hendricks and Lalwer.

Hector Lombard fought Josh Burkman last weekend and won a dominant unanimous decision. The win makes Lombard 4-1 in his past five fights in the Octagon.

Rory MacDonald is also 4-1 in his past five fights. He most recently defeated Tarec Saffiedine by TKO at UFC Fight Night 54.

UFC 186 takes place on April 25th at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
