Shogun Injured: Teixeira Steps In To Face Evans At UFC On FOX 19
MMA legend Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua has suffered an undisclosed injury, and is out of his scheduled fight against Rashad Evans at UFC on FOX 19. However, Glover Teixeira will be stepping in as a replacement to take on Rashad Evans in Tampa, Florida.
FOX Sports were the first media outlet to break the news. At this point of his career, depending on the severity of the injury, it’s uncertain if we’ll see Shogun back in the UFC’s Octagon.
Rashad Evans is 14-4-1 in his UFC career and 19-4-1 overall. Evans became the UFC light heavyweight champion when he knocked out Forrest Griffin at UFc 92. He last fought in the UFC’s Octagon at UFC 192 and lost a unanimous decision to Ryan Bader. If Evans has any hopes of fighting for a title again, he’ll need a victory over Teixeira
Glover Teixeira is 7-2 in the UFC and 24-4 overall. He last stepped in the UFC’s Octagon at UFC Fight Night 77 and finished Patrick Cummins via TKO. He too needs a win to remain in light heavyweight title contention.
UFC on FOX 19 takes place on April 16th, 2016 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
