Georges St-Pierre had a fun weekend, to say the least. GSP is the former UFC welterweight champion, and perhaps one of the biggest MMA stars of the last decade. He is currently in a contract dispute with the UFC and decided to hang out with the competition. St-Pierre was in attendance at Bellator 165 last Saturday.
GSP was cornering for his Tri-Star teammate Francis Carmont, who lost a unanimous decision to Linton Vassell. Normally, a fighter attending a Bellator show to support a teammate or just to watch the fights doesn’t attract much attention. However, St-Pierre’s case is a little bit different.
The Canadian welterweight was supposed to make his highly anticipated return to the octagon in the main event of UFC 206. However, the negotiations didn’t go well and we will not be seeing GSP in Toronto, Canada, next month.
Dana White and St-Pierre are in a public battle of power in which neither man wants to cave. White says GSP doesn’t want to fight again, while the fighter says the opposite. Seeing a photo of GSP alongside Bellator CEO Scott Coker, Rory MacDonald and Fedor Emelianenko is clearly a message to the UFC and its new owners.

St-Pierre tried to play innocent but it is clear this was a move to help negotiations. He is scheduled to reopen talks with the UFC about returning in early 2017. However, GSP might be considering another possibility. Joining Rory MacDonald, Chael Sonnen, Phil Davis, Benson Henderson and Matt Mitrione and leave the UFC for Bellator.
He even took things one step further and also posted a photo of himself inside the Bellator cage. The majority of people don’t think GSP will actually become a Bellator employee. The general opinion is that he is just trying to work Dana with these photos.
