Thompson says Woodley rematch happening in February/March
It looks like the welterweight ‘fight of the night’ from UFC 205 that ended in a majority draw will see it’s second installment. Stephen Thompson recently did an interview for bjpenn.com and revealed that the UFC is on board for scheduling the immediate rematch between him and Tyron Woodley for some time in February or March.
Here’s what Thompson had to say:
From what we understand, it is going to happen (the rematch). We are just not really sure when it is going to be in February, or if it will take place in March. We just are not yet sure when or where. But I talked to my management company and they have been in talks with the UFC and everybody is happy with it man.”
These two men had a thrilling back and forth fight at Madison Square Garden just a couple of weeks ago. When the fight was over, fans, media and both men didn’t seem too sure who was going to get the judges decision, because the fight seemed so close.
Ultimately, although the decision was initially read incorrectly, the champion retained his title with a majority draw. During a post-event interview, UFC president Dana White seemed open to the idea of Thompson and Woodley having an immediate rematch.
With Thompson revealing this info, it’s likely that the UFC will officially announce the fight in the coming weeks.
