Torn ACL Forces Jessica Aguilar Off UFC 197

American Top Team’s Jessica Aguilar came to the UFC very regarded as perhaps the best women’s strawweight fighter outside of the UFC but things haven’t gone quite as planned for her.

First the former WSOF champion lost in her Octagon debut against top contender Claudia Gadelha at UFC 190 last August and now a serious knee injury has forced her to withdraw from her upcoming fight against Juliana Lima at next month’s UFC 197 event.

The news was revealed by Aguilar herself on her Facebook page as seen in the post below:

“I’m disappointed to announce that unfortunately I have had to withdraw from my upcoming fight with Juliana Lima at UFC 197 due to an injury sustained during training. I tore my ACL and will be undergoing surgery this upcoming Tuesday to repair the injury and start the road to recovery. I have a great doctor and team around me, I’m confident that with their expertise, love and support, along with my determination to make a full recovery as fast as possible, I will be back in the Octagon before you know it. I’m focused on getting healthy and becoming the UFC Champion.”

Prior to entering the UFC, Aguilar won 10 straight fights including wins in Bellator over names like Carla Esparza and Megumi Fujii as well as a 3-0 mark in the World Series of Fighting Organization.

Aguilar will have surgery to repair the torn ACL ligament this upcoming Tuesday and its still very early to know the timetable for her return.

As for Juliana Lima, the UFC is actively searching for a replacement fighter to face her in the UFC 197 bout which is schedule to air on the Fox Sports 1 televised preliminary portion of the card.
