Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero Exchange Words Backstage Post-Fight at UFC 178

UFC 178 took place on September 27th, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Middleweight’s Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero fought on the evenings main card, in a bout that won both fighters ‘Performance of the Night’ honors. But, the fight is surrounded by a lot of controversy, as Yomero was allowed an additional 28-seconds on the stool, in between rounds two and three.

Tim-kennedy-3aIt all started out with Tim Kennedy landing a flurry of punches at the end of the second round that had Romero backing up against the cage, trying to survive, and being saved by the bell.

While in his corner, a UFC cutman attended to a bad cut that was above Romero’s left eye, but in the process, the cutman used an excessive amount of vaseline, that referee John McCarthy requested be removed prior to the start of the third round.

With the combination of excessive vaseline use and Romero’s cornermen taking their time to leave the Octagon, Romero ended up getting 28-seconds extra rest, on top of the allotted 60-seconds.

Shortly into the third round, a seemingly recovered Romero went on to land a flurry of punches of his own that sent Kennedy crumbling to the canvass, and allowing Romero to pick up the third round TKO victory.
