UFC 178: Medical Suspension List

 

UFC 178: Johnson vs Cariaso, took place on September 27th, 2014 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. A total of twelve fighters from the event have been handed medical suspensions from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, with middleweight Tim Kennedy being issued the lengthiest, due to suffering an orbital bone injury in his controversial fight with Yoel Romero.

Here is the complete list of the medical suspensions.

  • Tim Kennedy: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days; additionally, must clear left orbital inferior blowout fracture with ophthalmologist or plastic surgeon or no contest for 180 days
  • Eddie Alvarez: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days
  • Dustin Poirier: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days
  • Yoel Romero: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days
  • Cat Zingano: must have upper back cleared by a doctor or no contest for 180 days
  • Amanda Nunes: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for left eyebrow laceration
  • Takeya Mizugaki: suspended 60 days with no contact for 45 days
  • James Krause: suspended 45 days with no contact for 21 days
  • Stephen Thompson: must have right eye cleared by an ophthalmologist and right hand X-rayed and cleared by an orthopedic doctor or no contest for 180 days
  • Jon Tuck: must have right shoulder and right foot cleared by a doctor or no contest for 180 days
  • Cody Gibson: suspended 30 days with no contact for 15 days
