The UFC Has Released Norman Parke

When Northern Irish lightweight Norman Parke announced yesterday that he was let go from the UFC, many thought it was just an April fools joke, but since April 1st has passed it has since been confirmed that Parke wasn’t joking and he’s no longer with the UFC.

News of Parke’s release from the UFC has been confirmed by various other media outlets, but Parke first proclaimed the news on a post as seen below on his twitter account.

“I just wanna say a huge thanks to the UFC for giving me the great opportunity to compete at the highest level in combat sports.. I’ve had many great memories that will stay with me forever!! I’m now looking to fight this summer so whatever comes up I’ll be ready to go!! On any show anywhere Thank you to all my fans for following my journey.
I will be back ??? This ain’t no April fools joke.”

The news of Parke’s UFC release is a tad surprising considering he just signed a new UFC contract this past November, but it goes to show that UFC contracts are not guaranteed.

Parke is in the midst of a dismal stretch right now, having lost 3 of his last 4 fights. Most recently he was defeated by Rustam Khabilov at UFC Fight Night 84 in February.

Despite the recent tough stretch, Parke, despite being the lightweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter ‘The Smashes’ still exits the UFC with a winning 5-3-1 record.

The UFC values fighters who are exciting and are willing to finish or get finished. With that said, 8 of Parke’s nine fights in the UFC went to a decision. Thats quite a change for Parke because only one of his 17 pre-UFC fights went to a decision.

Parke’s presence on the UFC European cards will be missed because he was a notable name that helped sell tickets. What direction will Parke go in? Will he seek to win some fights with some small promotions and get back to the UFC or Will he want to sign with another big promotion like Bellator? Time will only tell.
