UFC Vet Kevin Souza Vs Patricky Freire Set As New Bellator 152 Main Event

Similar to UFC on Fox 19, which also takes place on April 16th, Bellator aslo had a change in it’s headlining bout. The new main event for this weekend’s will feature newly signed UFC veteran Kevin Souza as he replaces an injured Derek Campos and faces Patricky Freire in a lightweight bout.

The news of the change was first reported by Nothing is confirmed for the severity of Campos’ injury.

This will be the first fight for Souza since signing new four fight deal with Bellator. Souza, who fought in the UFC as a featherweight, will be moving up to lightweight for this fight against Freire and could alternate between both 145 and 155 in Bellator.

It came as surprise to many that the UFC chose to not resign Souza, considering he had a winning 3-1 record with them. Souza last fought in November at UFC Fight Night 77, where he suffered his first UFC loss against Chas Skelly. Prior to the loss, he was on an outstanding 10-fight winning streak, including wins in his first 3 UFC fights.

Freire has alternated wins and losses as of late, going 2-2 in his last 4 fights, most recently he was seen earning a first round knockout win over Ryan Couture at Bellator 148 in January.

Bellator 152 will take place at Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy and the main card will air on Spike TV.
