An interesting study has recently found that drinking a beer every day can increase your chances of living to the ripe old age of 90.
Yep, this is the excuse you’ve been waiting for people!
This revolutionary study was conducted by researchers at Maastrict University in the wonderful country of The Netherlands. The researchers say that men who drink a half pint of beer daily are 81%
more likely to live on into their 90’s than men who don’t drink at all.
And women can celebrate too because according to these guys, having a comparable amount of alcohol daily bears similar results to the men.
The head researcher, Professor Dr. Piet van den Brandt along with his team recorded the drinking habits of 5,500 people over the course of 20 years.
He said: “Our analysis shows significantly positive associations between alcohol and longevity in men and women.”
They reckon that drinking in moderation is good for your heart but going overboard and drinking too much is actually quite toxic. So binge drinking is out of the window if you want to live a long and healthy life.
They also said that if you currently don’t drink at all, you’re still on the right path, the study shouldn’t be taken a motivation to start drinking.
This is one of many studies on the effects of drinking alcohol. Sir Ian Gilmore of Alcohol Health Alliance UK said: “There is no evidence to suggest non-drinkers should start for the good of their health.”
Official guidelines, in the UK at least, suggest a weekly limit of 14 units of alcohol is the way to go. That’s about 6 beers or 6 regular glasses of wine.
That sounds like a regular Friday night to me! Seriously though, the old adage, everything in moderation rings very true. 😉
